Senior Managing Director
Ken Kurson is a Senior Managing Director with Teneo’s Strategy division. Prior to joining Teneo, Mr. Kurson served as the Editor-in-Chief of the New York Observer.
During his tenure at the Observer, Mr. Kurson led the transformation of the publication to became a digitally focused, national outlet, growing from 1.1 million monthly unique users doing 3 million pageviews to 6 million unique users doing 20 million pageviews and from the 3698th biggest site in America to the 275th.
Mr. Kurson was named 2014's Journalist of the Year by Algemeiner magazine and during his tenure at the Observer, Mr. Kurson personally broke dozens of stories.
Prior to the Observer, Mr. Kurson was a Partner and Executive Vice President at Jamestown Associates, a leading political and public affairs consulting firm.
Prior to Jamestown Associates, Mr. Kurson worked for the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee, serving as Chief Operating Officer, with oversight authority of the Communications, Political, Finance, Treasury, E-campaign, Research and Legal departments of the national campaign. He served in this role until the mayor withdrew from the race on January 30, 2008.
A highly accomplished author, Mr. Kurson co-authored with former Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani the best-selling book ‘Leadership’. Published in October 2002, ‘Leadership’ spent twenty-five weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List, including five at Number One. Beginning in February 2001, Mr. Kurson worked on the book alongside Giuliani for eighteen months, including before, during and amid the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Giuliani described the process as follows: "I wrote this book with Ken Kurson. But more than that, Ken helped me to analyze and understand even better the principles of leadership I had utilized throughout my life. He became a good friend and in the days after September 11 was by my side day after day and became a trusted and valued member of our team."
Mr. Kurson is also the co-author with CNBC television personality David Faber of The Faber Report, published by Little, Brown in 2002.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Kurson worked as a writer and editor at Time Inc., Esquire Magazine, Money Magazine, Worth Magazine and several other outlets. He has also written as a freelancer for outlets such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.
Mr. Kurson has appeared hundreds of times on television and radio, including a four-year run as a paid weekly contributor on CNNfn. Dozens of appearances each on NPR, CNN, FOX, FOXNews, CNBC, MSNBC, ABC, KVI-Seattle, WXYT-Detroit, WJJD-Chicago, Bloomberg radio and TV, and CNNfn.
