Mr. Merkens, a Managing Director with Teneo Strategy, is an accomplished consumer engagement strategist and one time visual designer who, over the past 20 years, has conceived and developed multichannel marketing initiatives and strategies for some of the world’s largest brands, including: Equifax, CIGNA Healthcare, MERCK Pharmaceutical, Singapore Telecom, Victoria’s Secret, Coca-Cola and Verizon Wireless.

Prior to joining Teneo, Mr. Merkens was a Group Director at Weiss Communications Group (WGC), where he led the Media and Engagement Practice for their sister company, Twist Marketing. While at Twist, Mr. Merkens split his time leading consumer engagements for a number of brands including Michaels Craft Stores, Sanofi-Pasteur and Coca- Cola, as well as expanding WCG’s agency footprint in Atlanta. He also regularly presented on mobile strategy, social commerce and multichannel consumer engagement.

In 2012, Mr. Merkens served as Vice President, Account Services At Moxie, a Publicis Groupe Company, where he led social strategy for Verizon Wireless and developed ground-breaking partner campaigns with YouTube, Facebook and Microsoft xBox.

In 2008, Mr. Merkens led mobile strategy for Sapient Nitro, where he helped build a global COE for multichannel engagement. He used his knowledge of consumer engagement and usability in conjunction with his knowledge of mobile technology to lead companies like Singapore Telecom, AmWay, CIGNA and Victoria’s Secret Brands in their understanding of global mobile strategy. As an Account Lead, Mr. Merkens also managed the development of Coca-Cola Freestyle for the Coca-Cola Company and managed numerous mobile campaign initiatives.

Mr. Merkens also served as global creative director for Equifax Marketing Services, where he led marketing initiatives for all list management and mortgage service products. He also helped rebrand the marketing services division and create marketing and go-to-market strategies for over 50 different email list offerings.

He holds a B.A. in graphic design, as well as diploma in radio and television broadcasting, and speaks French and German.
